Prof. Han Leading $16.75 Million Information Network Center for Army

- $16.75 million center to study information network challenges in complex, mobile, self-forming, rapidly-changing networks
- Center is funded by Army Research Lab (ARL) to improve battlefield intelligence operations, including humanitarian support, peacekeeping, force protection, and combat operations
- Existing network modeling and analysis methods consider only homogeneous, static networks, which don't often exist in real-world situations
- By contrast, the Illinois center will study real-world challenges of networks: heterogeneity, interactivity, and ability to evolve
- Center led by Illinois computer science professor Jiawei Han
- Researchers from Illinois CS and ECE will work with partners at UC-Santa Barbara, IBM, CUNY, CMU, Michigan, Northwestern, and PARC
- Center will work with 3 other ARL funded centers to consider the complete spectrum of needs, including communications networks and social and cognitive aspects
